Chinese New Year SALE! 新年快樂!

Xin Nian Kuai Le, Gong Xi Fa Cai! One of the best holidays where you just sit around with family, eat massive amounts of food (it puts Thanksgiving to shame), and of course getting those lucky red envelopes “hong bao” with money inside! Its a time to wish each other a happy new year that will be filled with good fortune and blessings! I find it a great concept, to wish others for good fortune, and literally to give them some money to kick start the year! Well, in that similar mentality, I am offering a special sale for all my items in my “Chinese Inspired” section of my Etsy. All those items will be 16% off (because the #8 is very lucky, as it also sounds like “good fortune” and Chinese believe that saying things twice is double the happiness or luck, so 88 is an auspicious number…so 8+8 = 16, so you’ll all get 16% off your order!). This sale will last until midnight of Saturday, Feb. 9th midnight EST.

Here are some of the items up for sale, click on the photo to direct you to the Etsy listing, or else checkout this link to see them all together:

Super Bowl Sunday, Super Tuesday, Marti Gras, Ash Wednesday, Chinese New Year!

Wow, so many big events going on in just one week! The Super Bowl was a sad day indeed, I love the Patriots, and usually I root for the underdog, but man when you have an undefeated season, you just gotta win the Super Bowl to cap off that kind of accomplishment…but alas, it was a rough game to sit through, but especially the last 3 minutes were painfully nerve wrecking! We scored a TD in like last 2 mins, then they scored in under 1 min left…but then, alas, sadness….oh wells. They did have some fun commercials though:

As for the Primaries today…we’ll see how it goes, I hate talking about politics, so I”m going to avoid opening that can of worms, but it seems like it’s a tight race all around!

I dont normally give up anything for Lent, but it is interesting to think about what you must give up for a whole 40 days, kinda crazy! Maybe I should give up Facebook, its so addicting!

As for the best celebration out of all these, its by far Chinese New Year! I’m going down to NYC to visit my grandma, not sure if they’ll have any continued celebrations into the weekend, but here’s to hoping to weather wont be as rainy/snowy as its predicted to! it’ll be fun to see her again as I’m sure she loves having visitors, eating lots and lots of food, and also shop around Soho and what not. I’m also on the look out for some inspiration for my Etsy items as well! I’ve found some really cute hong baos (red envelopes)…man why werent they this cool when I was a kid??

I’ve also made some cute jewelry using some of the Chinese New Year cards my parents get too! Click on the picture to see the item in my Etsy Shop.

CHINESE BLESSINGS NECKLACES: Each of these have a Chinese blessing, so wear it for good luck and good fortune! Your choice of pendant, each with its own unique Chinese blessing in black script against a red background. This pendant is made from a lucky Chinese “hong bao” (i.e., red envelope), which is used during the Chinese / Lunar New Year to spread good fortune and wishes for an auspicious new year!

***This item was featured in an Etsy Treasury of some of the top sellers in New England, check it out here! ***

CHOICES:
1. Longevity (i.e., long life)
2. Good Fortune
3. Good Health
4. Peace

LOTUS FLOWER NECKLACE: This piece is one-of-a-kind. This pendant is of a purple lotus flower on a green lily pad outlined with shimmery gold leaf. The design of the paper makes the images really 3D, in addition to the glass, it really gives the image great depth and dimension. This pendant is ONE OF A KIND, NOT TO BE DUPLICATED!

SYMBOLISM: Not only is this a beautiful design, but this paper is from a Chinese New Year greeting card, because of the symbolism of the lotus flower. There are many meanings for the lotus flower, one being the harmony and love between husband and wife, continuity of luck, wealth, promotions and children. The symbolism is also tied to just the struggle and beauty of life, as the lotus flower grows up from the mud into a object of great beauty, so is the desire that people also grow and change into something more beautiful. So the symbol represent the struggle of life at its most basic form.

GOLDEN FLOWER on RED NECKLACE: This is another beautiful pendant made out of “hong bao”. I only have two of these, so snatch them up quickly before they are gone!
